Clinical Study on Parenteral Nutrition with Supermax

Abstract
Supermax has been tested clinically in patients of postoperative condition at SNUH
during the period from the beginning of September 1978 to the end of November 1978. The compositions of Supermax are essential and non-essential amino-acids, and xylitol. The results obtained are as follows:
1. The body weight was decreased until postoperative the fourth day and there-after increased gradually.
2. The levels of serum globulin and albumin were decreased significantly until postoper ative the 2nd day and thereafter maintained the plateau state.
3. The levels of fasting blood sugar and BUN were not changed significantly and maintained within normal limit.
4. Positive nitrogen balance was obtained from postoperative the sixth day.
5. The effects of Supermax on Hb., Hct., P.R., and BP were not criticized due to unmeasurable variable concerning factors.
6. Never observed were untoward side effects.
7. Some effects were existed on promotion of appetite.
